Daily 3: Three Questions a Day From Your Own Courses

The hardest part of studying is starting. Not the hard topic, not the long chapter. Opening the book at all.

So the newest thing in Flaevo asks for almost nothing. Three questions a day, from your own courses. About two minutes. It is called Daily 3, and it is the first card you see on Home until you have done it.

How the three are picked

They are not random, and they are not from the internet. Every question comes from material you uploaded.

  • Two are to revise. A question you got wrong before, or one you are about to forget. They come from your Smart Review list, so the ones that are slipping come first.
  • One is new. Flae writes it from a part of a course you have read but never been tested on.

That third question is there on purpose. Reading a page makes it feel familiar, and familiar feels like knowing. It usually is not. Being asked is what shows you, and what makes it stick.

A Daily 3 question Getting it right Getting it wrong

Each question says which course and topic it came from.

A miss is the useful part

Get one wrong and nothing bad happens. You see the answer and why, and that question comes back sooner, so it gets another chance to stick. If the explanation is not enough, Ask Flae under it opens the tutor with that question already loaded.

Get one right and it moves further out, so you are not asked what you already know.

Questions can be multiple choice, true or false, or a word you type. Typed answers are marked on meaning, not exact spelling. More on that in this month's fixes.

Flae

Getting one wrong is how I know what to ask you again. It just comes back sooner, until it sticks.

Only the courses you are taking

University students change courses every semester. If Daily 3 kept asking about last semester, it would be noise. So it only uses courses you have opened, studied or added in the last five weeks. Old ones drop out on their own.

A file you uploaded once, just to run a quiz on it that afternoon, is left out too. A course only counts once you come back to it on another day, or study two of its sessions.

Finished with a course early? Tap I'm not taking this course any more under its question. It stops coming up. Open that course again, for a resit say, and it comes back by itself.

It keeps your streak

Finishing Daily 3 counts as studying for the day. On a busy day, two minutes is enough to keep the streak alive.

Reminders that carry the question

On your phone, Daily 3 arrives at 9:00 as a notification with the first question in it. Pull it down to read the whole question. If you have not finished by 19:00, one more reminder comes. Finish in the morning and the evening one never arrives.

You can turn them off in Settings, under Reminders.

Ready %: how ready you are for each course

Each course can now show a figure from 0 to 100: how ready you are for it.

Ready % on each course in Study

It is built from evidence, not from how much you have opened:

  • how well you remember that course's review questions,
  • your recent quiz scores on it,
  • and how much of the course you have studied.

A course you have only read shows nothing yet. That is deliberate: reading alone is not readiness. Answer its Daily 3 questions or take a quiz on it and the figure appears. At the end of each Daily 3 you can see where every course stands.

Getting it

Daily 3 is in Flaevo 1.1.0. Update from the Play Store, or download the latest APK from flaevoapp.com.

You need at least one course for it to ask about. If you do not have one yet, upload a handout, snap a few pages of your notes, or start from the syllabus with no notes at all. Study a session or two, and your first three will be waiting the next morning.

Frequently asked questions

What is Daily 3 in Flaevo?

Daily 3 is three short questions a day from your own courses. Two revise things you got wrong before or are about to forget, and one is new, from a part of a course you read but were never tested on. It takes about two minutes, and finishing it counts for your study streak.

Which courses does Daily 3 ask about?

Only the courses you are taking: ones you opened, studied or added in the last five weeks, and came back to on another day or studied two sessions of. A file you uploaded once just to run a quiz on is left out. If you are done with a course, tap "I'm not taking this course any more" under its question. Opening the course again brings it back.

When do Daily 3 reminders come?

At 9:00 in the morning, with the first question in the notification. If you have not finished by 19:00, one more reminder comes. Finish early and the evening one never arrives. You can switch them off in Settings, under Reminders.

What does Ready % mean on my courses?

It is how ready you are for a course, from 0 to 100, built from evidence: how well you remember that course's review questions, your recent quiz scores on it, and how much of it you have studied. A course with no quizzes and no review questions shows nothing yet, because reading alone is not readiness.
