Your Flashcards Are Unlimited Now, on Every Plan

Until last week, the free plan in Flaevo let you keep 2 decks and 20 flashcards. Hit the twentieth card and the app stopped you.

Both caps are gone. Decks and cards are now unlimited on every plan, including free. Nothing to claim, nothing to upgrade — if you had cards stuck behind that limit, the limit simply isn't there any more.

Here is what changed, and the honest version of what free gets you.

What the limit was actually doing

It was the wrong thing to charge for, in two separate ways.

It limited how much a student was allowed to remember. That is a strange thing to sell in a study app. Your deck of flashcards is not a premium feature, it is your revision — the accumulated result of every lecture you sat through. Charging rent on it means charging you to keep hold of your own work.

And it didn't even do the job it looked like it was doing. The cap lived on saving, not on generating. The expensive part — asking the AI to read your notes and write the cards — had already happened by the time the app checked whether you were allowed to keep them. So a student at 20 cards could generate all day and simply not keep any of it.

That is the worst of both. It constrained students without constraining anything else. So it went.

Where the paid line sits now

On generating cards, which is the part with a real bill behind it.

So a free student can make up to 60 AI-written cards a day, and keep every single one of them permanently. Over a term that is a very large deck, built for nothing.

And typing your own cards is completely unlimited and always free, on every plan. The meter only ever counts AI generations. If you are writing cards by hand, no number in this post applies to you at all.

Four ways to make a deck

You don't have to type anything to get a deck out of Flaevo:

1. From a topic. Type "photosynthesis" or "the causes of the First World War" and Flae writes the cards.
2. From your notes. Paste them in.
3. From a document. Upload the lecture slides or the PDF and Flae reads it.
4. From a photo. Take a picture of the board or your own handwriting. Flae reads that too.

Each of those is one generation against your daily count, whichever route you use.

The bit that makes cards work

Making cards is the easy half. Coming back to them is the half that moves your marks.

Flaevo schedules every card with spaced repetition — the ones you got wrong come back sooner, the ones you found easy come back later, and each one arrives at roughly the moment you were about to forget it. You aren't deciding what to revise. You open the app and the cards that are due are waiting.

This is also why removing the cap matters more than it might sound. Spaced repetition works because the deck accumulates. A system that made you delete October's cards to make room for November's was fighting its own method.

And a flashcard is active recall in its purest form: a question, a genuine attempt to answer from memory, then the check. That is the thing that actually builds memory — not re-reading the notes, however productive re-reading feels.

If you're studying on a phone

This is the format a phone is genuinely good at. One question fits on a small screen with room to spare, and a card takes about ten seconds — which means the queue at the bank, the trotro, the ten minutes before a lecture starts all become real revision instead of dead time. Ten cards in a gap you were going to waste anyway, every day, beats one long Sunday session. That is not encouragement. It is just how memory works.
